Bijou was imported in 2007 to North America. She competed through 1.45m at venues like WEF and Spruce Meadows before retiring to the breeding shed in 2012. Her sire, Thunder van de Zuuthoeve, is an Elite BWP stallion, recently awarded the title of Ambassador. Thunder enjoyed a successful international career with top placings in Grand Prix’s in Mechelen, Kasterlee, Lummen, and Zandhoven to name a few. Some of his oldest offspring, Blue Thunder, Eurocommerce Seoul and Brooke van de Zuuthoeve, have reached the international levels with great success. Bijou’s dam sire, Romeo, a son of the great Ramiro, had an exceptional show jumping career with placings in Grand Prixs in Zandhoven, Oelegem, Sint-Niklaas as well as the Belgium Championship in Bavikhove. Many Romeo offspring, including Helios de Bornival, Remus, Licensed to Jump, and Romina, have had careers at the International level. Bijou’s sister, Vienna van de Middelstede (s. Corsaire de Vauban), is mother to Diamond (s. Parco) who competed at 1.60m internationally with Wim Vermeir for Belgium. Bijou had a daughter before she was imported, Finesse vd Middelstede (s. Feliciano), who has already enjoyed much success at the 1.55m level and contributed to multiple Nations Cup efforts for Brazil. Finesse is also the dam of Indigo vd Middelstede (v. Lord), approved AES stallion, recently sold to South Africa.
